Welcome, Founder Clubs: the 7 Cape Town padel clubs in the 2027 Bear Digital Cup Series

← Back to the blog

Update, 19 October 2026: Since this post went live, Virgin Active Padel Club – Epicentre, Eden Padel Club and Padel 365 – Century City have joined, so all 10 Cape Town Founder Club places are now taken. Padel 365 – Richmond Park has also entered, as the league’s 11th club. Due to demand, the league has opened up to 20 clubs per division, in two groups. See the new format.

Every league needs its first clubs, and the Bear Digital Cup Series now has seven. From a wine estate in Somerset West to a converted parking garage on Bree Street, these Cape Town padel clubs have signed up for the city’s first SAPA-endorsed club padel league, and each one will carry Founder Club status for good.

So, a proper welcome to all seven. Below, we introduce every club: where it plays, what makes its home courts worth the trip and where to find it online. The first season starts on Saturday, 6 February 2027.

Welcome to Padel X Somerset West, one of the very first clubs to put its name down for the Cup Series. PadelX is an indoor club at Somerset Crossing, with four panoramic courts under one roof, a café, a pro shop and a wall of glowing hexagon lights that gives the place its look. With every court indoors, the Helderberg wind and winter rain won’t get a say in its home fixtures.

There’s more to PadelX than court bookings. Its courts are Drop Shot panoramic courts, and the club also supplies and installs Drop Shot courts for homes and other clubs. It runs a second, two-court club in Stellenbosch, at Devonbosch on Bottelary Road. Coaches Lauren, Tiaan and Brendan offer private coaching at every level, social events such as Fireball Friday are bookable on Playtomic, and the club gives back with tournaments like Padel 4 a Cause, in aid of Helderberg Hospice.

Keep an eye on this one: Virgin Active Padel Club – Lourensford is only a few kilometres away, which makes for a ready-made Somerset West derby.

Welcome to Virgin Active Padel Club – Lourensford, home to one of the best backdrops in the league. The club sits inside the Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, with vineyards on one side and the Helderberg range on the other, so visiting squads can expect a beautiful afternoon and a tough one.

Padel arrived at Lourensford as part of Virgin Active’s push into dedicated Padel Club venues across South Africa. The estate started with two courts and now has four, with a fifth under construction to keep up with demand from the Helderberg’s padel community. You don’t need to be a Virgin Active member to play: courts are open to everyone, members get 20% off every booking, and the venue offers pickleball too. For the full tour, read our Lourensford venue spotlight.

  • Courts: 4, with a fifth under construction
  • Booking: Playtomic, open to members and non-members
  • Rentals: rackets and balls available on site
  • Parking: on the estate

Welcome to Welgemoed Padel, proof that a club doesn’t need a big venue to have a big personality. This leafy two-court club on Jip de Jager Drive has bright blue courts, the Fairtree Court and the Brenthurst Court, with a lawn lounge alongside where sofas, benches and umbrellas sit under the trees. On match days, that lawn should be full of home supporters.

Welgemoed was one of the first clubs to enter the Cup Series, and its social calendar shows why the community is so strong: the Golden 60s, the Lunchtime Social, Midweek Mayhem and Super8 events for stronger players are all bookable on Playtomic. Regulars can take out an annual membership for 20% off court bookings and the chance to book four weeks ahead. With only two courts and a crowd on the grass, visiting squads will have to earn every point here.

  • Courts: 2, the Fairtree Court and the Brenthurst Court
  • Hours: 6am–10pm, every day
  • Booking: Playtomic
  • Off the court: pro shop (rentals, balls and snacks), showers, changing rooms, lockers, free parking and a play park

Welcome to Aura Padel Club, the league’s all-weather home in Montague Gardens, off Koeberg Road. Aura fits five indoor panoramic courts, a halaal café and restaurant and a pro shop into a converted industrial unit, and every court has Send-It replay technology, so players can watch their best points back (and their worst).

The Centre Court is built for big occasions, with a run-out of more than three metres and its own grandstand, and matches are live-streamed on the club’s YouTube channel. Aura opened in mid-2024 and has since added a second venue, Aura Padel Club Woodstock, with three indoor courts on Newmarket Street. Off the court there’s a supervised kids’ area, physio and sports massage, a co-working spot and a prayer room, and the Blueprint Padel Academy runs lessons from beginner classes to junior development.

  • Courts: 5 indoor panoramic courts, including a Centre Court with its own grandstand
  • Hours: from 6am daily, until 10pm Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays
  • Booking: Playtomic, up to 21 days ahead
  • Food: halaal café and restaurant

Welcome to The Racket + Ball Club – Bree Street, the league’s city-centre club. Its four world-class indoor courts fill what was once Independent Media’s parking garage, with glass walls, blue turf, a lounge full of beanbags and SHOTT Restaurant + Bar on site, so match days come with a ready-made clubhouse.

The courts have names to match the setting: Rolls Royce (the Centre Court), Aston Martin, McLaren and SMG. Since opening in December 2023, Bree Street has become one of the city’s busiest padel addresses. It has hosted the Padel4Good charity series, a R275,000 Aston Martin cash tournament and, in March 2026, the SAPA Daytona Open, a Super Gold event. Its PadelMBA-qualified coaches run everything from beginner lessons to high-performance squads and kids’ clinics, and the club has a sister venue at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg.

  • Courts: 4 indoor panoramic courts
  • Hours: weekdays 6am–11pm, weekends 6am–10pm
  • Booking: Playtomic, in 60, 90 or 120-minute slots

Atlantic Padel arrives with not one but two Founder Clubs, and each will field its own squads in all six divisions. First, welcome to Atlantic Padel – Sunningdale, which plays its home fixtures on four courts at the Berkshire Boulevard Convenience Centre, on the corner of Wood and Berkshire Boulevard.

Atlantic Padel began at Table View Tennis Club in 2022 and now runs venues along the West Coast, including Table View, Sunningdale and Parklands. That gives both of its clubs a big West Coast community to pick squads from, and an annual membership (R2,000) gives 20% off court bookings at any Atlantic Padel venue.

  • Courts: 4
  • Hours: weekdays 6am–10pm, Saturdays 6am–9pm, Sundays 6am–8pm

And welcome to Atlantic Padel – Parklands, the newest venue in the line-up. Atlantic Padel opened Parklands on 27 May 2025, with four courts at Rivergate, Phase 4. Two of them carry sponsors’ names, the Only Realty court and the Kuda court, and the club is open from 6am to 11pm every day.

Sunningdale and Parklands are a short drive apart, so the two Atlantic Padel clubs will share a brand but not a dressing room. Expect a West Coast derby with family bragging rights on the line.

  • Courts: 4, including the Only Realty court and the Kuda court
  • Hours: 6am–11pm, every day
  • Booking: Playtomic (Atlantic Padel Parklands)
